We arrived early at the testing site, about passed 7 in the morning yesterday, friday Feb. 02. The testing won't start until 8:30 so the five of us carpooling on ate Oha's van stayed inside her van and practice taking blood pressures and reviewing the written skills reviewer. Oh, we are all nervous and haven't got a good night sleep the night before. Then it's 20 minutes before 8:30 so we decided to find room 3 where the written test will be held. Wow, almost half of the room is filled with students taking the written test. And at 8:30 the sits were all occupied. Well, it's supposed to start 8:30 but the time was consumed in explaining rules, exam procedures, and such stuffs and on waiting for some little late students to finish fill upping their papers. We didn't started 'till about 9:30 and we've been seperated, half of the students are going to take the manual skills evaluation first. Luckily, me and my peers have remained in the room to take the written first, which what we want actually. We got 2 hours to finish the written exam and we've done it before that time, it's just 10:40 o'clock. We've been given a number before told to get outside the written testing room and be prepared to be called on the laboratory, which is the next room, to perform manual skills. I've been given the number 000097. A lot of students are waiting to be called for manual skills evaluation. Everyone seems familiar to each other because we're all the students on the same school with the same instructor. So is it just us they're testing? No other school?! Maybe there is, I'm just not sure. They were talking about the tests, some are reviewing physically for the manual and everytime someone comes out from the manual skills lab the students waiting outside for their turn will ask if how it's been for them and what task the examiner have asked them to performed. We're really so nervous about the manual test. We haven't got a good night sleep the night before, and now we're starving. I'm so hungry! lol. It's been 12 noon and haven't been called yet to perform. We didn't got the chance to eat our lunch since we left it inside ate Oha's van, we thought we're going to have a break but didn't. And what will be worst when you heard that two of your classmates failed in the manual? More nervousness and doubt of yourself. Then 1o'clock striked. Some we're still in line, me and my friends and some others. Finally number 000094 and 000095 have been called. My number is next! Finally one of the three examiners called my number after 000096. That's ate Lene's number! So we're gonna be partners! This examiner wears a purple sweater, with her eyeglass, and has all grayed hair which reflects the experiences she have earned through the years on this field to evaluate us. She smiles on both of us, she seems nice. It helps us get rid of our nervousness a little. Ate Lene and I were both evaluated on handwashing first, then it's my turn to first perform the 4 tasks that I got to do. Ate Lene pretended to be my patient. I did taking blood pressure first, putting elastic stocking next, range of motion, and then turning the patient to one side.... the last one and the one that gave me the thought that I will fail it. I've done the first steps of this procedures and finally turned her on her side, then the examiner said, "Are you going to leave her like that?" I was frooze for a moment trying to think if I forgot something to do. The evaluator is sitting on her desks with her papers smiling at me and said, "I know you know what your doing, you're just trying to skip some things." A quick review of what I did rewinded in my head: Ok, I've knocked on the door, check the patients arm band, introduce myself, had explained the procedure, provided privacy, lowered the rail and I have turned the patient just right, rails up, call light, and washed hands. What could it be? My mind went back to reality, right there in the manual skills lab when the examiner said, " Ok, I'm going to give you one more chance, just do it right and real quick." What could be the missing part? I did the procedure just like in my book. Would I blow my last chance up? I've started on the first beginning of the procedure and when it came to the last part again that I thought I'm done, she again said, " What are you gonna do next? Are you going to leave her like that?" My mind went blanked. I was torn. I know I'm going to fail And out of no where I got a hunch of what she wanted me to do, so I said, " I'll ask the patient if she wants her blanket." Then the evaluator got up to her desk, tapped me in my shoulder with a smile and said, " cover her with the blanket." So I did and said, 'I'm sorry." I was so nervous. I havent done any critical error but she could fail me if she wanted too. Then ate Lene performed next and I played the patient role. When we got out of the lab ate Lhea is waiting for her number to be called and asked us how did we did inside, ate Lene and I both answered " We think we're going to fail." " No, don't worry we can still retake it until we pass it, " said ate Lhea. In about 5 minutes, the guy who gave us the written exam called us. He already got both the results of the exams for us, written and manual. When he handed me my results, the first page says I've passed the written. Well, not a surprise, he already told us that everyone have all passed the written part. But the manual skills is what I have to know. I didn't even wanna flip the test result to the next page but I have to. I'm ready to see that I've failed the second part..... And tears just came out from my eyes when I saw the second page says, Manual skills: Passed! I can't believed I've still did it. Yeheyy I dont have to retake the test. I guessed the lucky coin just worked and my angel is right with me Thank you so much! The hungerness that I felt while waiting lately just vanished. So this is how it feels. I'm not hungry now, yay! it's the feeling of joy and accomplishment. Then I sat down with my classmates on the bench, waiting for my other classmates to get their results. Ate Lhea also thought she's going to fail it, but she didn't. She jumped for joy with teary eyes when she knew she have passed the manual skills. Even ate Beth cried when she learned she have passed the manual too. Yeheyy! all 5 of us in the van passed our manual skills. Thanks God! we did it. And now, we're certified, we will receive our license within 4-5 months. P.S. Something I just wanna wrote down the day before our exam day. I think someone is already wanted me to know that everything will be alright, or wishing me luck. We have a plan to practice the manual skills (my friends and classmates) into ate Beth's house and I have to ride the bus. This is how I figured out after the tests that somehow someone wants me to know my day will turn out ok: When I got out our front door, a white cat is coming into my way. And when I'm already standing in the bus stop, waiting for the bus to come this cat finally approached me with her meows. She really got close to me. I think shes hungry and asking me for food but I dont have any food with me. She surely one of our neighboors cat. She doesn't look like a stray cat. Second, when I got into ate Beth's house, ate Oha's son (about 3 years old) approached me smiling at me. Her baby boy have just seen me twice and I didn't play with him. And while we're practicing, ate Oha's son keep on following me whereever I sit. Well, ate Lene, and ate Mari said ate Oha's son doesn't like them to play with. And I started to think ok, this day seems weird to me, first the white cat, and now the baby. Third, I got an evening class to City College with Ate Beth starting at 3:30 that afternoon so after the practice we went straight to the trolley station. We decided to buy a ticket to a nearby bus instead of using the machine. Once were in the bus this bus lady passenger tapped me in my back, smiling at me and handling me her trolley ticket! I know it's not legal to do so I smiled at her and said, no thanks I'll just buy my own ticket. Wow, this never happened to me before, ever! specialy it happened three times! My good luck from some total strangers and my tests turned out alright!
