Holiday Eating Tips
12.27.07 (12:54 pm)   [edit]

Happy Holidays! And since were in a holiday sesson, ( Christmas had just passed by) but New Year is still coming so there's still a lot of yummy foods wating to be eaten ^.^ all kinds of them from main course to desserts and having an upset stomach can be prevented. Also many people would be worrying about their cholesterol levels after these holidays I bet.

So this post are for tips to enjoy New Year foods minimizing your cholesterol worries, and preventing upset stomach.

1. There are meats that got lot of fats and oils when you cook or grill them. What we do to this meats is getting rid of the fats and just leave small amounts of it with the meat, specially pork and chicken, both mostly have the fats or (taba) in Tagalog. What we do to chicken is get rid of the fats by taking the skin off and those other fats along with the meat.

2. On Filipinos, we still love cooking tinola, nilaga, papaitan, and other somehow fatty foods even on Holidays using chicken, pork, or beef. When you cook tinola and papaitan , seperate the soups from the meats and vegetables, cool it off, and put it on the refregerator and allow several hours. These process will make the fats visible and hardened, and this is when you can take the fats (taba) off the soup. After you have got rid of the fats, you can then remix the soup to the meats and veges and heat it again. These will help us decrease the oily fats that clogs up on our internal system.

3. A teaspoon or tablespoon of garlic and onions helps reduce your cholesterol level. This is a little trick my mom use to do, whenever she thinks she should have a teaspoon of this , mostly when we eat meats as viands for 2 days or more. Also garlic helps boost and protect your immune system from colds and coughs. Garlic is a good herbal antibiotic.

To do this, mince 1 or 2 heads of garlic and a small amount of onion (if you wanna add onion.) Mince both and both it on a spoon and top it with honey and take it along with water, soda, juice, whatever you prefer.

4. I read from the book  The Healing Powers of Vinegars that when you go to parties, or any occasions, and you expect to eat lots of foods, you may want to take a little amount of Apple cidar vinegar before going to the party to protect yourself  from upset stomach, or possibly spoiled foods.

Have a happy New Year!! Eat healthy ^.^
